Once the early clouds had burnt away, the 2004 Wyedean Rally was blessed with beautiful spring sunshine - I even got slightly sunburnt! As usual, the 40-odd stage miles were split around several forest stages in the 'Wye' and 'Dean' areas, plus a couple of short stages on the race course (horse).
The 1400 class ran at the head of the massive field (180 entries), ultimately being won by the Suzuki Ignis of Ian Evans. CMSG contenders, Ed Robinson (106 Rallye) and James Griffiths (Skoda Favorit) made it home safely - scoring useful points in an event skipped by most other contenders. The overall rally winner was Andy Burton in his wild, mid-engined '306'.
All in all, a very enjoyable day out. Far cheaper than the Wales Rally of GB, only £5 to park - and that ticket was tranferable around all the stages, and just £4.80 to cross the Severn Bridge. Great value! With the new FIA rules in place, the number of WRC cars competing wasn't too different either!
